The world's first online community dedicated to the offensive line
In all of my years as a student I have never opted to sit in the front row for fear of being the "teachers pet"! As I scanned the room for a seat before San Fancisco head coach Mike Singletary began his press conference, there wasnt anything open in the back. My only option was to sit in the front row directly in front of the greatest linebacker to ever play in the NFL. The only option is sometimes the best option as I had the opportunity to really get a feel for his prescence.
Mike Singletary is a leader of men. He spoke with such passion and exuded a level of confidence I have never before seen in a head coach. Each question he fielded was answered sternly and he never waffled on any topic, even the ones as delicate as who will be the teams starting quarterback. "Alex Smith is our starting quarterback, I feel comfortable saying so" as he glared into the poor reporters soul who dared ask the question. This man is intense and I could only imagine what it was like to be in a locker room with him as a player or lined up against him as foe.
Coach was asked what he looks for in an offensive lineman..."tough, physical and will finish blocks", not a surprising answer coming from a player as himself.
Headed down to do a set on Sirius radio with Gil Brandt, check back for my interview with Lions head coach Jim Schwartz.
