An interview with former NFL lineman, Pete Kendall

An interview with former NFL lineman, Pete Kendall.

1) What's the best aspect of being an NFL lineman? Being with a group of guys who work hard and can laugh at themselves knowing they will almost certainly never get the credit they deserve but will shoulder the blame when things go wrong beyond their control.

2) What's the best and worst advice a coach has ever given you? Best: Worry about the next play, the last is behind you. Worst: Get you butt up in your stance and narrow your feet.

3) What's the most difficult block for you to perform and why? Deep set on a super wide 3T who is playing pass on a play action pass

4) Briefly describe your training regimen and your favorite lifts to perform. 4 day split working upper and lower 2x/week. Not many favorites. Squat is probably the least.

5) If you had to give one piece if advice to young linemen with aspirations of playing in college and NFL, what would it be? Learn the scheme, not just the assignment.

6) In order to create the "perfect" linemen, what key mental and physical attribute would you give him? Mental: determined to win every snap, able to move past the ones he didn't. Physical: Quick, strong, accurate hands

7) You've played a long time, what advice would you give young coaches starting out? Respect is better earned than demanded. Knowledge, preparation and an ability to teach go much further than being able to yell real loud and being the head coach's buddy.
