Alex Boone has the most intriguing story of any player I have ever worked with.  I will get into that at a later date through a one on one interview with Alex because the real story is where he's at today.  At one time he was the most highly rated high school player in the country that went on the The Ohio State University to start as a true freshman.  Four years later he went undrafted by the National Football League.  Alex was an obvious long shot to make an NFL roster but was fortunate enough to land on the 49ers practice squad.  The subsequent off-season we began working together.  He fully commited to making life changes and adapted to my program.  He went on to make the active 53 man roster for the 49ers in 2010 and here he is now in 2011 competing for a starting job!  There isn't a player that wants it more than Alex Boone and he continues to do things the right way because he now understands, its the ONLY way.

San Francisco 49ers: Coaches look at different O-line configurations

Matt Barrows Sporting News

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The 49ers have been experimenting with different offensive line configurations this week. One of them has had Adam Snyder at right guard instead of usual starter Chilo Rachal and Alex Boone at right tackle in place of Anthony Davis.

The coaching staff said some of the substitutions are merely contingencies should one of the starters get injured during the season. Still, it’s worth noting that Rachal and Davis struggled more than the other offensive linemen last season.

Boone, meanwhile, is having a very good training camp. He has mostly practiced at left tackle with the second-team line, but he has been working at right tackle when called in to join the first group.

Notes: Asked how many slant patterns he had run prior to this training camp, wideout Josh Morgan said none. That’s changing this season. The slant pattern is a major component in Jim Harbaugh’s offense. Moreover, the team’s top three wide receivers—Michael Crabtree, Braylon Edwards and Morgan—are big-bodied receivers who should be able to wall off smaller defensive backs and potentially turn short catches into big gains.

Alex Boone has played really well and he's a guy, he wasn't really good as a rookie, but they kept him around because they saw something good in him. And he had a great attitude, he's transformed his body, turned around his life. He was a little bit better last year and I think he's a whole lot better this year. I know he's working with LeCharles Bentley in the Cleveland-area. A guy who's played in the NFL and has helped him out a lot, and it shows. He's played pretty well and I think he's in the kind of position where you could think of him as a starter.

Boone brings aggressive play to the 49ers O-Line. I believe that he should be the starter at Right or Left Tackle. Bottom line, every time he is in, he plays like a starter. I support Alex because he reminds me of myself when I was his age and I like how he has faced adversity and decided  I am going to make the right changes for my life. Keep up the good work Boone! LeCharles thank you for everything you do for the sport that we all love and most of all helping guys to move closer to obtaining their NFL football dreams.
