Nick Saban Gets it

Nick Saban In the era of fancy football that is lead by offensively minded Dr. Jekyll’s, the game has found it’s Mr. Hyde in Alabama’s Nick Saban.  Names like Chip Kelley, Mike Leach, Urban Meyer, Brian Kelly have been on the forefront in changing the landscape of college football.  Much of what’s changed about the game has has had an alternating positive and negative effect on the game. Football in it’s nature is a thrilling game that can’t just be watched, it has to be experienced.  The…See More

Saints Offensive Line Battle on The Sideline

Michael DeMocker/The Times-Picayune  The New Orleans Saints offensive line struggled mightily in the team's loss to the Saint Louis Rams.  There were many technical reasons for the struggles but for the most part, they were just outplayed.  It apparently got to the point where the frustrations boiled over to the sideline from the field.  Saints guard Carl Nicks got into a verbal battle with offensive line coach/run game coordinator Aaron Kromer and eventually had to be separated.  "Man, I…See More

Dallas Cowboys' Montrae Holland

Dallas Cowboys' Guard Montrae Holland Here is a great example of an NFL veteran offensive lineman that learned the hard way that weight control is paramount for peak performance.  Montrae Holland spent the past nine seasons in the NFL on the brink of becoming a star but constantly battled weight issues that held back his true ability.  He has finally cleaned up his lifestyle and been blessed with another opportunity to showcase himself as an elite NFL offensive guard.  Some guys aren't as…See More

Just My Thoughts

I look back over my football career and I have internal debates with myself over what was the official year my professional career ended.  The last officially sanctioned football game I played in was the 2006 NFL Pro-Bowl as a New Orleans Saint.  Following that season, I signed a free agent deal with my hometown Cleveland Browns but never had an opportunity to play in a game due to a knee injury and severe complications from a Staph infection.  The three years I spent on the Browns roster were…See More

Are you a "five star" talent? I hope not....

The entire "star" ranking system for high school athletes is by far the most illogical and misleading way to quantify a players ability.  If you have questions on why, leave a comment and I will address it in a blog later.  Anyway, here is a "3 star" recruit that I have spent some time with working on his on-field performance.  He's a hardworking, intelligent and tough kid that can't be summed up with a few lousy stars.  I'm sure he will land at a D1 program and do very well.  By Jared Shanker…See More

The hard way is usually the right way

Not every offensive lineman in the NFL finds his way to a team through the first round of the draft.  I would go as far as saying, most of the starting offensive linemen in the NFL are later round picks to undrafted free-agents.  Taylor Boggs may fall into the latter category but you can be assured his name will be adorned on…See More

The "Star" Ranking System Fails Again

Check out this article on Ohio State offensive lineman, Antonio Underwood.  He was only a three star recruit coming out of high school and many critics felt OSU wasted a scholarship on him.  Well, he's the starting tackle this week against Purdue.

Moral of the story: Don't let people put limits on what you can be.  If you work hard and smart; good things will happen.

Bears Offensive Line Issues

Bear's offensive line coach Mike Tice

There isn't any doubt the Chicago Bear's offense has struggled the past two seasons with offensive inconsistencies.  As a pattern, the offensive woes fall squarely on the shoulders of the five gentlemen upfront, known as the offensive line.  If you have ever had a chance to watch the Bear's in action it's difficult not to believe that the offensive line does a fine job in impersonating a spaghetti sieve each Sunday.  But…

Hey LeCharles, I'm sure you get these kinds of questions alot, but I need help on my diet and I'm hoping that you'll be able to help me as you know the importance of being a lean lineman. I am a 6'0" 276 pound offensive guard. Last year my playing weight was about 260-265. I do not have a problem with being heavier, but I noticed that I let my diet go and I've gained alot of fat. I was wondering if you could help me with dieting so I can reach my goal of losing 10-15 pounds of fat by August. (Goal playing weight is 260) Any help is very much appreciated.
