First off I think this site is great. I am new to coaching O-Line. I played linebacker in college and had a limited knowledge of Offensive line play, so I have been searching the net for O line coaching resources, which means weeding though all the message boards and websites for good line stuff. So what I am looking for from this site is specific focused discussion about coaching O line.

I am coaching both junior and senior O line and football is relatively new in my community at the high school level, so most of my guys had not ever played before, and the ones that had never had a proper coach. So I had to start from scratch and teach everything beginning with stance, and I had to teach myself how to coach that. I want to go into next year much more prepared so hopefully I can learn some things from more experienced coaches in the forums. I think that having video's would be a great idea especially for drills and technique.

Great site. I coach 12-14's in Pop Warner. I'd like to hear what blocking schemes are used for different offenses. When do you use zone and when do you use gap. Does it depend on the defensive alignment?

This is so needed, no one has ever devoted any time to linemen! I just found out about the site and am rapidly sending it to all my coaching bretheren! I have been coaching O line, from the middle school ranks up to the varsity level. I would love to be a part of the clinic, are you accepting any volunteers for any of the camps, if so, what would you need from me?

I think the answer to your question may depend more on the actual play we as an offense are running. Zone is used as a generic term for a direction which assigns responsibility (ex. zone right as a right gaurd I have anyone in the right "B" gap) and letting the running back have a general idea of where he needs to go. Whereas gap is usally used when there is some sort of a kick-out block taking place (if we ran power left and the right gaurd pulled to the left defensive end the offensive line would have gap responsibilities to their right). There is a difference in inside zone and outside zone where I coach. The difference is in inside zone we try to block the defense inside out and in outside zone we try to reach and create an edge.
