O-LineWorld

The world's first online community dedicated to the offensive line

Hi Gentlemen,  we recently began to put together a flexbone offense, I have tried to make the blocking as simple as it can be working with   ON  GAPS  AWAY   blocking rules and encourage double teams at the POA. Our slotbacks signal who the option man is on everyplay PS and BS but still we get pressure coming from the middle of the line.

Due to frustration I put the pads on myself to see things from a players perspective and found the system to work well.

Maybe I need to get alot tougher on the O/Line, any help would be greatly apprieciated.

I'm coaching ages 18 upwards with very limited equipment in Ireland.

The lineman have to be smart and fast in an option style offense. Are you just getting a straight double team or are you combo blocking and having one guy release to the LB? Are you pulling your BS guard?

Do you mean the OL rules are ON, inside gap, and over (away from the center)?

I'm not an expert by any means - but I'm just curious how you other guys would do this. I've seen Georgia Tech run this offense and I originally thought it was a double wing.

Take care

Hi Marcos, at the moment we are just using a straight double team with the emphasis on pushing the lineman into the second level player, we are not pulling B/S guard, hence why I'm so confused as to how pressure is coming there so quick!

The OL rules are pretty much as you have called them with the exception that closest P/S gap is checked then the other.

To be honest I want my line to be dealing with anyone on the line of scrimmage, once that concept has been fulfilled we can move onto second level.

Look forward to your reply,

Mark

These couple videos does a good job of explaining the combo block and getting to the next layer. Problem if you just double team one guy, someone goes unblocked.

Are you leaving the last defender on the BS unblocked?

Are your guys pointing their assignments when they come to the line? My kids were always shy about doing it but they worked better as a unit when they did.

We are leaving B/S and most outer defender(option man) on LOS P/S unblocked. Some guys are calling assignments but not everytime and not everyone.

Thanks for the videos, we are capable of combo blocks and have done them on other offenses, my problem is if we don't deal with the first threat we can't move onto the second. As soon as the line can control the LOS I will move them on to the second level.

I guess it's down to practice, practice and practice.
Sounds good buddy - be persistent.
