personaly i dont know why you need to cause if your pushing your guy that far you already have done your job. but if you do want to try to pancake him then try to get under him just a little bit more maybe
grab the chest plate of the guy, and torque him.
Pancakes are over rated, yeah it is great feeling to put someone on their ass but people often miss blocks because they are going for the pancake, just do your job and block the guy. If you can drive the guy 10-20 yards that's more than enough

Also I should add, if you can block a guy 10yards you should be looking at going to the secondarys  i.e line backers etc.

Great points Owen. Pancakes are over rated, if you drive your man 10 yards down field then you have done your job. Also, if you are driving your man 10-20 yards down field you've done enough and you need to start looking for a backer, safety or corner flying over the top to make a tackle down field. Those blocks on guys that fly over the top on their pursuit angles are the blocks that spring back for td's.

You aren't necissarily going to be looking for a linebacker if you are driving your guy that far, and I disagree with what these guys say. Pancakes are important because they set the physical tempo of OL play. If you continuously put a guy on his ass, he will give up. If you aren't working a combo
To the second level and all you have to worry about it that man, by all means try your hardest to put him on his ass. Sorry guys, but driving a guy 10-20 isnt "good enough". OL is a physical position, and nothing is good enough until the DL Is picking up their teeth with broken fingers. If you are working a combo to the second level then don't get too carried away on a guy, but if you have no other assignment kill his ass. In terms of doing this, make sure you have great hand leverage and a solid grab. Most importantly rise your hips to him as you press him back, plant his ass and fall on top of him with all of that big man weight. Make it hurt. Pancakes aren't overrated, they are a sign of dominance. Something which is very important in the trenches.
