I'm no coach but I have coached a few high school camps. I would say focus on technique drills that your guys struggle with. Focus on footwork and steps, most high schools don't do this. We always start practice going through our basic steps, and we do this for a solid 15 minutes while our coach picks apart every minute detail of each technical step. This really helps. I'd say that's one of the main things coaches should work on, footwork and other
Blocking techniques. If you are coaching a younger level I found learning a good OL demeaner helped me (knees always bent, good posture, good place, hands ready) the most. This is the basis of OL play in almost any situation and perhaps drills revolving around this aspect can help. But they gotta know how to hit in order for that to be effective, because if they are too young this really doesn't matter
I have a regimented routine that is straight fundamentals. My goal is to replicate the scenarios my guys will see on Friday night as many times during the week as possible. Each day has a period of fundamentals and I build each day into game situations. Email
Me at coachhorne@thetrenchdoctor.com and we can get into specifics. Check out my web site also.
