Jacob,

Best way to stay hydrated is to drink plenty of fluids before and after practice. My old coach used to say, "You have to pre-hydrate before you dehydrate". Chessy saying, but makes a lot of sense. Also, make sure your replenshing your fluids with more than just water. I'm not saying drink 32 oz of Gatorade before and after, that much sugar is only going to hurt you. 12-16 oz of gatorade after working out if sufficiant. Best of luck, hope this helps!

Kyle
Great advice from Kyle. Sports drinks are not the answer, a little of that stuff can go a long way. Water before, during and after. And something that has help our team is Chocalate Milk. Our strong safety/qb cramped his entire junior year, add a big glass of chocalate milk after every practice and it all went away. Our kids are huge believers in it. Buy the premade(not skim), syrup and powder just doesn't work as well and its a mess.
Good stuff Cody, never heard of the chocalate milk after practice. Makes a lot of sense though.

Guys, a nutritionist told me that a half gatorade half water mix is great for staying hydrated and energized. The dilution does not spike your insulin as high which gives you a nice steady does of energy instead of a rush of energy and crashing. I have also heard that chocolate is a good postworkout drink. The important thing with milk is to make sure that the cow you are getting the milk from is healthy.

Half water and half gatorade is loving refered to in our locker room as Gatorwater or if its real weak, as waterade. I think at first our kids thought we were just being cheap.
